An Irish musician of Romanian origin, Alex has been making himself known both nationally and internationally, as a solo, chamber and orchestral percussionist of the finest calibre.

He regularly works with the professional orchestras and ensembles in Ireland, as well as taking part in prestigious international events such as the Tromp International Percussion Competition and the Lucerne Festival Academy.

Above all else, Alex seeks to promote percussion as a concert instrument in solo and chamber music settings.

With overlapping rhythms, this drum solo becomes more and more frenetic as it progresses and has Crash's ambidextrous Alex Petcu no less frenzied.

Pat O'Kelly, Irish Independent, - Crash Ensemble, New Music Dublin festival, 2014

Petcu-Colan's musicianship on marimba and vibraphone was spellbinding.

Dick O'Riordan, Sunday Business Post, - Irish Freemasons Young Musician of the Year competition, 2013

Assured technique, mature musicianship, a varied programme and a communicative stage presence ensured that Alex Petcu-Colan charmed his audience.

Declan Townsend, Irish Examiner, - Crawford Summer Lunchtime Concert Series

Alex Petcu's performance of an unusually busy bass drum part was never overstated and always sensitive to Yuasa's (the conductor's) demands.
